In late may, the Brookings Institution released its report Shrinking the Carbon Footprint of Metropolitan America. Two of the standout findings of this report were that the average metropolitan resident has a smaller carbon footprint than the average American as a whole, and that our per capita carbon footprint is significantly higher in the Eastern half of the country.
